Messi spent 17 years at Barcelona before making a controversial move to Paris Saint-Germain and there was interest from his boyhood club of a return. However, the World Cup winner said the manner of his Spanish exit contributed towards his decision.
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo and Sport, Messi said: “I obviously really wanted to, very excited to be able to return, but, on the other hand, after having experienced what I experienced and the exit I had, I did not want to be in the same situation again – wait to see what would happen and leave my future in someone else’s hands, so to speak.
