Liverpool have free Josko Gvardiol alternative in Evan Ndicka

Liverpool have reportedly entered the race for Eintracht Frankfurt star Evan Ndicka with the centre-back available for free at the end of the season. Arsenal and Tottenham have both been linked with the Frenchman in the past who could potentially pose as an alternative to RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.

Liverpool have endured a bitterly disappointing season by their recent standards this season and have no chance of holding any silverware come May. The Reds face a battle to even make it into the Champions League with Tottenham and Newcastle United both holding the upper hand in the race for the last top-four spot.

Jurgen Klopp may feel he needs to be active in the transfer market over the summer as he looks to revolutionise his side but if the club are able to complete moves for marquee names like Jude Bellingham and Mason Mount, money will be tight to bring in further acquisitions.

The Mirror reports that Ndicka could be on the shortlist. Klopp would also like to add to his backline as well as midfield and the Frenchman ticks all the club’s boxes. He is available for free, left-sided and has the versatility to play both left-back and holding midfield.

Arsenal and Tottenham have both closely monitored the 23-year-old’s progress closely in the past and may be tempted to make a move again next summer. Ndicka is a similar profile to the highly-sought after Gvardiol and leads the Croatian in defensive blocks this season. The Frenchman could pose as a useful alternative with the RB Leipzig star valued at over £80million.

PSG and Barcelona are among the European giants also interested in Ndicka’s signature with the race to bring him in likely to be intense over the summer. The Parisians may have a slight advantage over the other clubs with the 23-year-old hailing from the French capital.

Klopp has already confirmed that he will be looking to add in the summer with the emergence of the likes of Stefan Bajcetic and Harvey Elliott not enough to fulfil his needs.

“No, we need players,” he said. “We count on them but that does not mean we will not have a look in the summer. The challenge for us with the changes we have made now or over the next few years we have always replaced a sensational player or formation, because the boys are just that good. That is how it is but that doesn’t mean we don’t have to make changes.”
