Liverpool enjoyed a last-gasp win on Saturday as they saw off a gutsy Wolves side.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were made to wait until stoppage time for Divock Origi’s winner, but the manner of celebrations from the bench and travelling fans showed just how much it meant.
But what about the players away from Anfield this season? Liverpool sent a clutch of young players out on loan this campaign, with many plying their trade in the EFL.
In fact, seven of them are in either the Championship or League Two at present.
Here, Mirror Sport runs the rule over the aforementioned players and their latest performances.
Which of these are best-equipped to break into the Liverpool first team? Let us know in the comments section
Sepp van den Berg
The Dutchman has been a regular for Preston North End this season but he sat out Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Blackburn.
North End chief Frankie McAvoy gave an update post-match on Andrew Hughes and van den Berg.
He said: “We gave them every chance to be fit for the game and the physios have worked hard with them but they weren’t 100 per cent today so we didn’t want to take any risks with them.”
Rhys Williams
Williams has endured a tough start to life on a season-long loan at Swansea City.
He hardly featured for the first few months but has started the last two games.
On Saturday he generally kept Middlesbrough’s attackers quiet but with Russell Martin’s side 1-0 down, he was sacrificed midway through the second half.
Martin recently said of Williams, before he returned to the starting line-up: “At this moment in time he has to wait for his opportunity, but that’s football sometimes.
“It’s never anything personal. Football is about competition, working hard for your place and then when you get it, especially in this team, you have to really take it.
“I’m sure when Rhys gets his opportunity, he will be ready to take it. And with the way he trains and approaches, I feel he will be ready.”
Ben Davies
The defender is enjoying plenty of action out on loan at Sheffield United.
Saturday saw him play the full 90 minutes in an enthralling 3-2 win away at Cardiff City.
Davies had to get involved in a physical battle and won his fair share of headers and did well on the cover for the Blades.
Sheyi Ojo
Ojo had to be content with a place on the bench as Millwall beat Birmingham City 3-1 at the Den on Saturday.
Ojo, in his eighth separate loan spell away from Anfield, couldn’t force his way onto the field sadly as Gary Rowett’s team secured a much-needed first win in five Championship outings.
Leighton Clarkson
The youngster was an unused substitute in Blackburn Rovers’ aforementioned defeat to local rivals Preston North End.
It was the third successive game where he has sat on the bench.
Paul Glatzel
The young striker had a day to forget as Tranmere Rovers were battered 4-0 away at Leyton Orient in the FA Cup.
Glatzel, 20, had entered the game in a rich run of form. He had scored four times in his previous four outings.
But he couldn’t prevent a heavy defeat for Mickey Mellon’s side. He was substituted after 71 minutes with the score at 3-0.
Newport County, who have Liverpool’s Jake Cain on a season-long loan arrangement, were not in action this weekend.
