‘Liverpool tell Wales defender Neco Williams he CAN go on loan’ this summer

Liverpool will reportedly let Neco Williams go out on loan for the 2022-2023 campaign to help increase his pitch-time ahead of the World Cup. 

The 21-year-old has spent the past two seasons playing second fiddle to Trent Alexander-Arnold and is eager to up his minutes in the build-up to the tournament.

Therefore, Liverpool have told the Wales international that he can leave the club on a temporary basis this summer, according to The Mirror.

Williams helped Wales qualify for the World Cup for the first time in 64 years by beating Ukraine in the play-offs earlier this month. 

He is a pivotal part of Robert Page’s team and is expected to start each of Wales’ group games against England, Iran and the USA. 

Therefore, it is important the youngster gets as many minutes under his belt as possible before the tournament in Qatar.

Williams made just eight appearances for Liverpool last season before being loaned out to Championship winners Fulham in January and still sits behind Alexander-Arnold in Jurgen Klopp’s pecking order. 

As a result, he could sign for either Nottingham Forest or Fulham during the summer transfer window as both clubs have registered an interest in his services. 

Forest boss Steve Cooper knows Williams well – having spent three years as the manager of Liverpool’s academy. 

Cooper also has a reputation for developing young players into stars. As a result, Forest may be the move favourable location for Williams. 

Meanwhile, Liverpool have welcomed former midfielder Jay Spearing back to the club to take charge of the U18s.

Liverpool academy manager Alex Inglethorpe said: ‘It’s fantastic to welcome Jay back to the Academy and he will work with the U18s as a full-time coach. 

‘Jay will work with Bridgey and Tim and he will be actively involved on the training field with our young players. 

‘He will also be eligible to play for the U21s to provide experience for the young players when we need him. 

‘Jay is still quite young and the impact he can have around the U18s is invaluable because he is someone who lives and breathes this club. More important, Jay has played across all four divisions, so I think he will be a really good addition for us.’
