These two arch-rivals have been on quite different paths this season. Manchester United are still competing for the remaining three trophies after, ending its six-year trophy drought with a Carabao Cup triumph at Wembley last weekend. They also pulled off a stunning comeback in midweek to defeat West Ham while they advanced to the Europa League next round a week back defeating Barcelona.
After a dry stretch, United have now reclaimed some respect in this rivalry, and a victory at Anfield would keep their title aspirations alive should Arsenal and City falter.
Liverpool on the other hand will look to salvage their season with a top-four birth and a win against the old English rival could be a big statement in that aspect.
Liverpool have managed to move up to sixth position and cut the distance between it and the top four teams to six points after overcoming Wolves in the middle of the week. However, resisting Erik Ten Hag’s high-flying men will be another big test for the Anfield giants next who have not lost at home against Manchester United since 2016.

Liverpool vs Manchester United: Injury News
Liverpool
Liverpool do not have any current injury concerns apart from the usual absentees of recent weeks. Thiago Alcantara, Joe Gomez, and Luis Diaz all are expected to sit out due to long-term woes. Thiago is nursing a fresh hip problem, and will not be back until later in the month. Luis Diaz has been long on the sidelines while Joe Gomez has been absent for the last two fixtures due to a hamstring injury. Keita’s fitness will be assessed after a knock against Crystal Palace. Arthur has returned to light training however is still a concern ahead of the tie.
Manchester United
The Red Devils were without Luke Shaw against West Ham at midweek due to a knock. But he is expected to be in contention ahead of the game. Jadon Sancho also missed out on the FA Cup tie due to illness but should make a return to the side at the weekend. Anthony Martial however will be still out with a hip issue while Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek are long-term absentees.
