Australian veteran breakfast show host David “Kochie” Koch has signed on for at least two more years with Seven’s Sunrise.

Koch, 66, fought back tears as he celebrated 20 years of working in the popular morning slot, sparking speculation he was planning on leaving the popular program.

In December he revealed that he had a year left in his contract, reigniting resignation rumours.

Months later whispers of his retirement spread once more, when a Laryngitis diagnosis forced him to leave a Sunrise show early.

But Koch agreed to a new two-year deal during a meeting with Seven West Media chief executive James Warburton this week, on the condition he be given greater flexibility to devote more time to his family and his business streaming service ausbiz TV, according to The Australian.

Sunrise has been a ratings juggernaut for Seven for almost a decade, with 2021 the 18th year in a row it ranked No.1 in its timeslot.

Koch joined the show in 2002 as a temporary replacement. Months later, he secured his position as the show’s permanent co-host
