Logan Paul feared his boxing career was over after breaking his hand hitting a punching machine in Hamburg’s red-light district.

Whilst in Hamburg last September, Paul and his friends visited a quaint bar in the Reeperbahn district. After having a bit too much to drink, Paul tested his boxing skills on a punch machine but it ended in disaster as he suffered a broken hand.

“I see one of those arcade boxing machines, I’ve got to set the high score. I’m a boxer, I’m 0-1-1 fine. I’ve got an ego. That’s my thing, I do it everywhere. my ego’s flaring up, I hit it, boom. 916, but the high score is 922, I’ve got to do it again,” Paul said on the Impaulsive podcast.

“The bar was no bigger than a small closet and the bartender made it very clear after he saw my vigour in the first punch that many men and women have broken their hand on the column next to the game. I said, ‘Guy, I’m a boxer, I’m not going to hit the f***ing wall.

“I move the bench that was again, in this little tiny room so I can get a running start. I go up, I hit this thing as hard as I can, sure enough I hit the f***ing column exactly where he said I would. He goes, ‘Brother, I’ve seen bones’ I said, ‘Whatever dude’.

“There was like four napkins taped with duct tape on the spot that everyone hits. I hit the napkins, immediately I knew I shattered my hand. It’s very bad. I did not set the high score, which is the worst thing about all this.”

Setting the high score was not the worst part of Paul’s experience, as he took an unplanned trip to a hospital in Hamburg to fix his broken hand, but only after punching the machine several more times. Doctors told Paul he may never box again after shattering a metacarpal in his hand.

The accident happened just months after Paul went eight rounds with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather in an exhibition fight. Thankfully, he has since recovered from the injury and is confident he will fight again, stating: “I will [box again], I’m training again. I’m getting back into it.”

Paul announced he was retiring from boxing earlier this year after partnering with former opponent KSI to launch their energy drink brand ‘Prime’. The American changed his mind shortly after and has since been linked to a fight with Brazilian singer Whindersson.
