PLANS for a theme park that has been dubbed the ‘UK DISNEYLAND’ have been ‘significantly’ scaled back.

It has been confirmed that the footprint for the proposals for the £2.5bn leisure and entertainment attraction have been redrawn.

According to Kent Online, bosses have said they will be changing the project “significantly”.

It was original planned to be three times larger than any other theme park in the UK – spanning a whopping 535 acres, the equivalent of 136 Wembley Stadiums.

One of these alterations includes downsizing of the resort, which will no longer span across the entire 535-acre wildlife site near Dartford, Kent.

Instead, the theme park, known as the London Resort, will only span part of the site.

This is because earlier this year, developers have acknowledged Natural England’s decision to designate the land as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

Locals protested against the plans after it was revealed the area was home to a number of rare species in the area, including a tiny 1cm jumping spider.

In a statement made earlier this year, the company’s former chief executive PY Gerbeau said: “The decision by Natural England to designate a brownfield contaminated site as an SSSI has impacted the project.”

The project, which was scheduled to open by 2025, has run into a number of problems since it began, including having to withdraw and resubmit the application.

The original plans of the park saw the attration split into six different themed lands, along with a water park, three hotels and a shopping district.

This included the high-octane action The Studios and fairytale land The Woods, along with attractions based on mythical creatures, the legend of King Arthur and futuristic space exploration.

It isn’t clear if all of these will still go ahead.

If you can’t wait until 2025 for a spot of thrill-seeking in the UK then head to Alton Towers, Thorpe Park and Drayton manor, which have been named the best theme parks in the UK
