Roethlisberger, 39, shared the news via a two-minute video posted to his website’s Twitter account Thursday morning, saying, “I retire from football a truly grateful man.”
Drafted in 2004 by the Steelers after a college career at Miami University of Ohio, Roethlisberger quickly established himself as one of the NFL’s top quarterbacks, leading Pittsburgh to two Super Bowl victories and earning six Pro Bowl selections.
Roethlisberger’s retirement was largely expected after he told reporters in December “this could be it” but wouldn’t guarantee he would retire following the season.
