A bad season has finally reached its end for Ben Simmons. The Brooklyn Nets were swept in the first round of the NBA playoffs by his old team, the Philadelphia 76ers.
Simmons didn’t play in the series as he’s been out with a back injury for months, but that didn’t stop fans from pulling up an old yet relevant tweet of his.
Watching my team get swept hurt, and I don’t ever want to feel that way again.

“Watching my team get swept hurt, and I don’t ever want to feel that way again,” Simmons said in 2020. That year, the 76ers were swept in the first round by the Boston Celtics while in the NBA’s Orlando bubble.
Unfortunately for Simmons, it would not be the last time he was on the business end of a sweep in the playoffs.
The Nets were swept by the Celtics in the playoffs last year – another series Simmons did not play in – and then Brooklyn lost to Philadelphia in four games this year.
This year’s sweep likely doesn’t sting as much, considering Brooklyn has a patchwork roster after several trades at or near the deadline, but losing in the playoffs is a feeling no player looks forward to.
If Simmons can get back to full health, maybe he can play a part in making sure the Nets aren’t swept in the first round for a third straight season.
