Brittney Griner has weighed in on Russia’s detainment of an American journalist.

U.S. journalist Evan Gershkovich, who works for the Wall Street Journal, was taken into Russian custody and accused of being a spy. The newspaper has denied the allegations.

Griner, who was held captive in Russia for nearly a year, released a statement on the matter.

“Every American who is taken is ours to fight for and every American returned is a win for us all,” Griner said in a statement with her wife, Cherelle.

The 31-year-old journalist was taken into custody on Thursday.

President Joe Biden has urged Russia to release the journalist, though he remains in custody.
