Phil Jackson made headlines over the weekend when he made some comments about the NBA and where it is now.
Jackson, who is one of the best coaches in NBA history, said recently that he hasn’t watched a single NBA game since the bubble tournament in 2020 because of how political it’s gotten.
“They even had slogans on the floor and the baseline. It was trying to bring a certain audience to the game, and they didn’t know it was turning other people off. People want to see sports as non-political,” Jackson said.
Phil Jackson says he hasn’t watched the NBA since the Bubble:

Jackson also didn’t like the words “equality” and “justice” on the back of players’ jerseys.
Sandiford-Artest, who is formerly known as Ron Artest and used to play for the Lakers, saw those comments and thinks that Jackson doesn’t understand other perspectives.
“Nobody’s coming with any programs to bring people together. It’s all political,” Sandiford-Artest said. “Keep in mind, I’m not a politician. I’m from Queensbridge but I think people don’t really understand the trauma.”
Sandiford-Artest makes solid points as Jackson may not understand why the players had those words on the back of their jerseys a few years ago.
Unfortunately for Jackson, players are only going to lean more into non-sports slogans as the years go on. Maybe he’ll have a change of heart at some point.
