LeBron James is the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
During Tuesday night’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s long-standing record of 38,387 career points.
The all-time great NBA superstar accomplished this feat in front of a packed house in Los Angeles. Kareem himself was among the many celebrities and public figures present for tonight’s historic event.
LeBron surpassed Kareem with a classic fadeaway jump shot with 10 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
Here’s the basket that broke Kareem’s record:
LeBron, 38, entered the night 36 points away from breaking the all-time record. He went into the halftime break with 16 points to go. Now, every point he scores will separate him further from the rest of the field.
Kareem held the all-time scoring record for more than 38 years, and LeBron’s new mark will no doubt stand for decades to come.
