It’s been a hot minute since we heard much about former two-time NBA champion J.R. Smith. But a recent announcement signals that we could be hearing a lot more about him in the near future.
According to Front Office Sports, Amazon is launching a new, four-part docuseries on Smith that will premier on April 4 of this year. It’s not clear what aspects of Smith’s life the new docuseries will cover.
Smith retired after winning an NBA title with the Los Angeles Lakers during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. Since retiring, Smith has tried his hands at Esports while pursuing a college education and an amateur golf career at North Carolina A&T.
The story is going viral with over 33,000 views on FOS’ Twitter and a ton of fans in comments looking forward to seeing how Smith’s life is chronicled.
J.R. Smith was a first-round pick in the 2004 NBA Draft and was a very solid player for the Nuggets and Knicks, he really rose to prominence as a teammate of LeBron James on the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Smith and LeBron famously won an NBA title together in 2016, but famously made a mistake in the 2018 NBA Finals that cost the Cavs the game against the Golden State Warriors.
Even though LeBron chewed Smith out in a now iconic moment in Finals history, the two put aside their differences and reunited on the Lakers in 2020, winning a title together before Smith rode off into the sunset.
Will you watch the J.R. Smith docuseries?
