LeBron James claims he was on the Stephen Curry bandwagon before the fellow superstar began his Hall-of-Fame-worthy NBA career.
On Tuesday, Bleacher Report and the NCAA March Madness official Instagram account noted that Curry led Davidson to a Sweet 16 victory 15 years ago. James, then playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, watched the point guard score 33 points in a 73-56 win over Wisconsin.
The post juxtaposed photos of James watching in awe alongside a picture of Curry. James used the pictures to recall the moment in an Instagram Stories post.
“Knew he was special,” James wrote.

Curry’s 2008 tournament run put him on the map. He then averaged 28.6 points in his junior season before the Golden State Warriors made him the No. 7 pick of the 2009 NBA Draft.
Curry has since penned an impeccable NBA career. The nine-time All-Star and all-time leader in three-pointers has won two scoring titles and two MVPs. His Warriors defeated LeBron’s Cavaliers in the NBA Finals for three of his four championships.
James has the benefit of hindsight, so nobody else knows if he truly realized he was watching a future great 15 years ago.
