LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers must make history to save their season.
The Denver Nuggets bolstered their Western Conference Finals lead to 3-0 with a 119-108 win on Saturday night. No NBA team has ever overcome a 3-0 series deficit, but James doesn’t want to look beyond Monday night’s possible elimination game.
“Just got to get one,” James said after Saturday’s loss, per ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “Just one at a time. Just focus on Game 4, and you know, that’s all you can really think about.”
McMenamin noted that the Lakers have never forced a Game 5 when down 3-0 eight times.
James is averaging 23.7 points, 10.3 assists, and 9.3 rebounds, but it hasn’t been enough to overcome an uptempo Nuggets attack led by Nikola Jokić. The two-time MVP is averaging a triple-double this postseason while scoring at least 23 points in each game.
Denver outscored Los Angeles by nine in the fourth quarter Saturday night. The Lakers committed 12 turnovers in their first home loss of the playoffs.
But having erased a 3-1 deficit to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to the 2016 championship, LeBron knows what it’s like to play with his back against the wall. He’ll look to keep the season alive when the Lakers host the Nuggets for Game 4 on Monday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
