Ray Allen achieved many accolades throughout his Hall of Fame career. Twenty-seven years after leaving the University of Connecticut to go pro, he returned to receive his degree.

Per the Hartford Courant‘s Joe Arruda, Allen received his Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies on Sunday morning. The 47-year-old sat under his No. 34 retired in the rafters.

Attendees at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion cheered as Allen had his name called to retrieve his diploma.

Most of Allen’s fellow graduates weren’t alive when he played at UConn. Allen averaged 19.0 points per game over three seasons with the Huskies before becoming the No. 5 pick in the 1996 NBA Draft.

Going pro certainly worked well for Allen, a 10-time All-Star who won championships with the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat. He set an all-time NBA record for three-pointers made, since broken by Stephen Curry.

Recently commemorated on the NBA 75th Anniversary Team, Allen already achieved admirable career success after leaving school. But he went back to get his degree.
