NBA viewers could witness the power of home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. However, not every stadium offers the same energy.

The Athletic conducted an anonymous poll that asked current NBA players various questions. The survey included inquiries about which arena houses the best and worst fans.

Among 99 responders, 15 chose the Charlotte Hornets’ Spectrum Center as the worst arena.

The Athletic noted that the question’s basis is up to interpretation. They believe players chose Spectrum Center because of low attendance.

Only four NBA venues drew a lower capacity rate at home games than the Hornets in 2022-23. It’s hard to blame fans who didn’t want to watch a 27-55 team, especially once LaMelo Ball’s season ended in late February.

The Hornets, who haven’t made the playoffs since 2016, went 13-28 at home this season. Only the Detroit Pistons, who finished second in the “worst fans” survey, notched fewer home victories.

One player claimed “nobody shows up” to Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena, which received 11 votes. The Washington Wizards’ Capital One Arena placed third with 10 votes, with a player saying it’s “dead in there.”

TD Garden won the vote for best fans. However, the Boston Celtics’ stadium also netted the fifth-most votes for the worst fans. One player noted heckling and incidents of alleged racial comments.

Charlotte fans shouldn’t take the results as personally as owner Michael Jordan and a front office that hasn’t delivered a contender to cheer. The Hornets need to start winning before the atmosphere improves.
