Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers are on the verge of another second-round playoff exit.

The Boston Celtics are blowing out Philadelphia in Game 7 behind a dominant display from Jayson Tatum. Some fans are turning the disappointing performance into a referendum on Embiid’s MVP win.

Embiid won the award over Nikola Jokic, who has taken the Denver Nuggets to the Western Conference Finals by averaging 30.7 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 9.7 assists per game this postseason. After many in the NBA world argued against Jokic winning his third straight MVP due to a lack of prior championship experience, onlookers now believe he’s the superior big man.

“Jokic got killed the last two seasons for not making it past the 2nd round as an MVP— without his two best teammates,” Sirius XM’s Justin Termine said. “What does that mean for Embiid, who actually has all his teammates?

“Embiid had a fantastic season. A deserving MVP,” The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski wrote. “But it wasn’t enough for some of his acolytes to leave it at that to make the case. It became about belittling and diminishing Jokic. It was ridiculous then and it looks absolutely foolish now.”

“I have no more questions. Jokic>>>>>Embiid,” a fan claimed.

“Embiid and Jokic are on two different planes,” another fan stated. “Jokic is not only better, he’s in a different universe.”

“I really looked at myself and said Embiid was better than Jokic,” a fan said. “What was wrong with me.”

The postseason doesn’t factor into the MVP award, so Sunday’s game is irrelevant to Embiid’s award. Philadelphia’s center averaged 33.1 points, 10.2 boards, and 1.7 blocks during an exceptional season.

However, Denver’s previous lack of playoff success entered the conversation throughout a heated race. One would imagine another early 76ers exit could thus hurt Embiid in any future MVP debates.

Meanwhile, Jokic can silence the few remaining doubters by leading the Nuggets to the NBA Finals over LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.
