Nuggets head coach Michael Malone won the press conference on Thursday night following his team’s comeback win over the Lakers in Game 2.
Malone called out the national media for basically applauding the Lakers for a moral victory in Game 1.
“The national narrative [after Game 1] was, ‘Hey, the Lakers are fine,” Malone said. “No one talked about Nikola just had a historic performance. … The narrative wasn’t about the Nuggets. The narrative wasn’t about Nikola. … You put that in your pipe, you smoke it. And you come back, and you know what, we’re gonna go up 2-0.”
“You win Game 1 of the playoffs, and all anyone talked about was the Lakers. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.”

Even though Malone was fired up about the Nuggets taking a 2-0 series lead, he knows there’s more work that needs to be done.
“We know that we’re not done, we haven’t done anything yet. You got to win a game on the other team’s home court if you really want to do something in the series, and we know how great that team is, especially on their home court,” Malone added. “So, we’re not celebrating. This is not cause for celebration, this is a cause to continue to dig deep and find ways to be better.”
The Lakers and Nuggets are both undefeated at home this postseason.
Game 3 of the Western Conference finals will take place on Saturday night.
