From 1951-2017, the NBA operated under the East vs. West format. But in 2018, the league decided to switch to its current All-Star game format.
Under the current format, fans vote for team captains, and those team captains chose from a pool of All-Star options in a live draft. This format results in some intriguing team-ups and matchups, but also kills the decades-long East-West rivalry.
The Western Conference holds a 37-29 all-time series lead over the Eastern Conference. That series could resume if the NBA goes through with this potential change.
