NBA analyst JJ Redick is trending on the internet this Wednesday due to his interesting take on the Ja Morant situation.
Redick revealed on “First Take” that he doesn’t believe the league should put the hammer down on Morant. While going on a lengthy rant, he threw some shade at Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.
“In our country right now, gun culture is pervasive. We’ve got mass shooting after mass shooting and nobody’s doing a damn thing about it, so I get why everyone is sensitive right now,” Redick said. “But there’s no consequence for this for Greg Abbott telling his constituents that they should go buy more guns, and then we have mass shooting after mass shooting in Texas. There’s no consequence for an elected Tennessee official to send out a Christmas card holding AR-15’s with his young family, and then there’s a shooting in his very district.
“There’s no consequences to that, so why are we trying to lay down the hammer on a 23-year-old who didn’t break a law!? Explain that to me.”
Some people loved Redick’s commentary on “First Take.” Others, however, think he missed the mark.

“JJ isn’t wrong and it was very clear that no one actually cared about addressing Ja’s fixation with guns because they just wanted to rush him back on the court to make money off of him,” Phil Lindsey of Bleacher Report wrote. “But what Ja is doing is still incredibly stupid and he has to do better.”

At the end of the day, the NBA has a brand to protect. For that reason alone, there’s a very good chance Morant receives a lengthy suspension.
