Stephen A. Smith is a huge fan of one young NBA star, but he still has some questions for him.

Boston Celtics wing Jaylen Brown accidentally cut his hand last week and needed stitches. Brown said he suffered the freak injury while gardening.

On his radio show, Smith said he considers Brown to be “that dude” but he wasn’t sure if he was being truthful about how he got hurt.

If he was being forthright, Smith added that he wasn’t sure why Brown would be gardening anyway at this point in the season.

“I don’t know if I believe that. I don’t know what the hell is true or not, but if he plants, what the hell are you doing? How the hell are you gardening before the playoffs?” Smith asked. “I don’t understand some of these dudes, I really don’t. But I love Jaylen Brown, so to hell with it.”

Brown told reporters that he cut his hand on a piece of broken glass while watering his garden.

“I was watering my plant and ended up knocking over a glass vase that was next to it,” Brown said last week. “Picked it up, set it on the ground, realized you probably shouldn’t set glass on the ground. Reached down and picked it back up, and it got me.”

The latest update says Brown, who averaged a career-high 26.6 points per game this season, should be ready for Game 1 this weekend against the Atlanta Hawks.
