Los Altos: Peninsula’s only food hall will close temporarily for a reboot

The Peninsula’s lone food hall, State Street Market in Los Altos — which opened in September 2021 — will shut down for several weeks in February and March as the owners revamp the restaurant offerings and management.

The owner, Los Altos Community Investments, is ending its contact with the Bon Appetit culinary management company after two years, according to the San Francisco Business Times. That action will result in the layoff of about 45 employees, Bon Appetit said, though the company will try to accommodate as many as possible at its other operations.

It’s unclear which tenants will stay and which will go. The current lineup includes Banks & Braes, Murdoch’s, Grains & Greens, Bao Bei, Little Blue Door and Tin Pot Creamery.

One restaurateur who told the Mercury News he will be joining State Street is Joey Camacho of the South Bay’s Konjoe Burger. And Tian Mayimin, owner of Little Sky Bakery, said her pop-up space and offerings are expanding at the hall.

State Street’s anchor tenant, across the courtyard from the food hall, was award-winning chef Traci Des Jardins’ El Alto, which she closed abruptly last September after six months in business, leaving a huge space to fill.

Regarding the changes, LACI managing director Robert Hindman told the Los Altos Town Crier: “Successful food halls evolve with culinary tastes and in response to customer feedback.”
