Louis Saha is not convinced James Maddison would be starting ‘week in, week out’ at Manchester United were he to make the move to Old Trafford.
Maddison will enter the final year of his contract with Leicester City at the end of the season with the Foxes still deep in a relegation battle amid a disastrous 2022-23 campaign.
The 26-year-old’s form has been one of the small positives at the club this term with a number of Premier League sides plotting a move for him this summer.
Newcastle United have shown interest in Maddison in the previous two transfer windows while Tottenham have also been strongly linked with a move.
Recent reports have suggested United have also entered the race with Leicester believed to be seeking between £46million and £60million for their prized asset.
Maddison is thought to be a boyhood United fan but would potentially face serious competition for his favoured role at the club with Bruno Fernandes near ever-present in Erik ten Hag’s starting XI.
While he believes the Leicester star has the right personality to thrive ay United, former striker Saha is not convinced he would be a regular starter in the side.
He told Betfred: ‘I have a lot of respect for James Maddison and it’s a shame to see him playing in this current Leicester City side that have really struggled this season.
‘As a Manchester United fan, I want the club to have players that have full confidence in themselves and I believe James is a player that could have an impact at the club.
‘He’s a top player but I’m not sure he’s a player that will play for Manchester United week in, week out. That’s the only question mark around this move.’
United have made signing a new centre forward a top priority for the summer transfer window with Harry Kane their leading target.
Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Frankfurt star Randal Kolo Muani are also thought to be options under consideration, with ten Hag also eager to bring in another midfielder.
