If you happened to even take a glance at Twitter over the holiday period you will know that there was one show that people couldn’t stop talking about: The Traitors.
The BBC reality show hosted by Claudia Winkleman became an unexpected hit when it aired last year, with many calling it the “best show they’d seen in a long time”.
So it goes without saying that fans of The Traitors will have their weekend plans sorted after the BBC announced it would release the US version of the reality series in its entirety on iPlayer today, Friday 13 January.
“Following the huge success of The Traitors, which has been streamed more than 28 million times on BBC iPlayer and was the talk of the nation over the festive period, we’re delighted to give BBC viewers the chance to watch the brand new US series within hours of its release in America,” Dan McGolpin, Director, iPlayer and Channels at the BBC said in a statement.
Fans were quick to celebrate the news, with one person writing: “Best news I’ve heard this year”, while another added that the news was “amazing”.
Even Richard Osman revealed he was excited by the news, tweeting: “The whole USA series of #TheTraitors will be on @BBCiPlayer from tomorrow!!!!! Sensational news. If you haven’t watched the British series yet I highly recommend it.”

The Traitors US is hosted by actor Alan Cumming and has been filmed at the same Scottish castle that the British version of the show took place in.
The format of the show will be the same too. It will see 20 contestants enter the castle where a number of them will be named as “the traitors”.
It is then down to the rest of the group, “the faithfuls”, to uncover who the traitors are before the end of the game. If there are any traitors left standing, they will take home the entirety of the cash prize – which was up to £120,000 for the UK version and will be up to $250,000USD for the American version.
We can only hope that the US series will live up to its UK counterpart – but we’re not sure whether anything could beat the “parting gift” at the end of the British series (IYKYK).
