Aston Villa, Newcastle and West Ham have been told they should all be battling to sign Harry Maguire from Manchester United in the January transfer window.
Maguire was left on the bench again by United boss Erik ten Hag in their 1-0 win over Wolves on Saturday, despite his impressive performances for England at the World Cup.
Left-back Luke Shaw has been preferred alongside Raphael Varane as a centre-back in United’s first two Premier League games since the World Cup.
Maguire, who cost United a record £80million, had lost his place in the United first team earlier in the summer to Lisandro Martinez and is yet to get a chance to win it back.
Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino thinks Maguire should be looking elsewhere, as does United legend Rio Ferdinand.
“If you were Maguire sitting there as a centre-back and he’s got Luke Shaw in front of him, he will be thinking ‘I’ve got to leave Old Trafford’,” Cascarino told the Weekend Sports Breakfast.
“He might say it’s a tactical decision for whatever reason. Diego Costa was up front for Wolves. You’d like to think Harry Maguire would like to battle with Costa.
“They’ve won the game so it’s not been an issue. For Harry Maguire, he will only be thinking how he’s so far down the pecking order.
“I think Harry will have to consider his future at Old Trafford. He will be incredibly disappointed.
Ferdinand, meanwhile, said: “If I’m Harry Maguire, I’m looking for a new club right now. This new manager is showing by his team selection that he is not going to be one of the two, three top centre-backs at this club.”
England legend Stuart Pearce also joined the Weekend Sports Breakfast and tipped a trio of Premier League clubs to make a move for him.
He said: “If I was West Ham, if I was Newcastle, if I was Aston Villa, I’d be all over trying to get Harry Maguire out of there.
“I’d be asking the question whether he’s available. He’d be a brilliant addition to a football club.
“He’s the right age, the right stature, right experience.
“He might just need another challenge now as he’s not getting regular football.”
