To reduce acquisition cost and pre-empt the threat from upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny, Mahindra had launched Thar 4×2 RWD earlier this year in January. The SUV was offered in the price range of Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 13.49 lakh. Initial prices were applicable for the first 10,000 bookings. Prices have now been increased, post the BS6 P2 upgrade.

Thar RWD has proved to be a runaway success, as waiting period is already around 18 months at some locations. Thar RWD had received two new colour options, Everest White and Blazing Bronze. As these new colours have received positive market feedback, Mahindra has now introduced one of these colours with Thar 4×4 as well.

Mahindra Thar 4×4 white colour – First look walkaround

A teaser of Thar 4×4 in white colour was posted on Mahindra Thar official social handle. It even received a ‘like’ from Pratap Bose, the chief design officer at Mahindra. However, the post was taken down after some time. It was believed that they had teased by mistake. But with the arrival of white colour Mahindra Thar 4×4 at dealer yard, launch is confirmed.

Thar in white looks absolutely immaculate and there’s no reason why the 4×4 version shouldn’t get this colour option. Thar in white brings out the purity of the SUV’s timeless design. It also has formal overtones, which may appeal to a specific segment of buyers. Thar in white seems more refined, mature and dependable. Take a look at the detailed walkaround video shared by The Car Show.

Another visual treat is the exciting contrast between the white and blacked-out parts such as bumper, grille, ORVMs, body cladding, fenders, door handles and roof. No other colour option of Thar can achieve this level of finesse. However, Thar in white can have disadvantages too. For example, even small amounts of dust can ruin its entire look.

Everest White colour is currently offered with top-spec LX variants of Mahindra Thar RWD. The same approach can be utilized for Thar 4×4 variants as well. It remains to be seen if Blazing Bronze will also be made available for Thar 4×4. It’s a stark opposite to the Everest White and an attention grabber on the streets. Thar 4×4 white colour prices remain same as other variants with which it is on offer.

Thar engine options

Mahindra Thar is offered with three engine options. Thar RWD has two engine options, a 1.5-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre petrol. The 1.5-litre unit is the same as used with XUV300. It generates 118 PS of max power and 300 Nm of peak torque. Onboard Thar RWD, it is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The 2.0-litre petrol motor, which is also offered with Thar 4×4, generates 150 PS and 300 Nm. Thar 4×4 also has a 2.2-litre diesel engine that generates 130 PS and 300 Nm. Transmission choices are 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic.
