  • Two Maine trail photographers were able to capture majestic lynx in a forest
  • The endangered cats are native to Canada, Alaska and the northern US
  • At one point, one of the lynx heads up to the camera for a lick

Two trail photographers captured a majestic lynx as it let out a mighty roar in a snowy forest, only for it to then show its affection by licking a camera lenses.

The clip was made by videographers Colin Chase and Allie Ladd, who often capture wildlife in the Maine forests.

They were up in Rangeley in February, which is home to the Maine Forestry Museum and hid some cameras to try and catch some interesting footage.

They eventually got several minutes of footage of three Canadian lynx, a specialist predator native to  Canada, Alaska and parts of the northern United States.

Viewers were able to hear them roar throughout the videos – but also watch the more wholesome, tender side the animals displayed.

At one point in the video, you can see the lynx start to look for mates and claim their territory.

Lynx are wild cats and they can be ferocious, according to experts. They are are specially adapted to snowy conditions of the region’s forests.

However, the most wholesome moment came when one of the furry cats heads up to the camera and gave it a lick.

The footage, which is compiled for Chase’s Maine Woodsbooger YouTube page, lasts several minutes but is an exciting look at these beautiful creatures.

Lynx are among the most endangered species of cat in North America, with only a few hundred of them suspected to remain in the lower 48 states, according to Conservation Northwest

The species are considered threatened in the United States under the federal Endangered Species Act, as they are often used in the fur trade.

The main threat to Canadian Lynx in the United States is the fragmenting of their natural habitats.

They are not considered endangered in Canada though the population of the species has always been small, according to Wildcat Conservation.

While they are native to the western hemisphere, there were plans to reintroduce the lynx to parts of Scotland at one point.

However, in recent weeks, UK environment minister Thérèse Coffey said that ‘we just don’t need to and we won’t’ do so, according to the National History Museum.
