NEW DELHI: As Texas gets set for its first taste of Major League Cricket, the historic night at the Grand Prairie Stadium will be a full house, the organisers announced on Monday.
Hosts Texas Super Kings will be up against Los Angeles Knight Riders as a sell out house will welcome the global cricketing stars on July 14.
Along with the highly-anticipated contest, the league will also greet the crowd with a drone show and a post-game display of fireworks on the inaugural day of the tournament.
“Fans will experience an unforgettable night for cricket in America on Thursday, with a full house welcoming the world’s best players to Grand Prairie Stadium for Major League Cricket’s opening match,” Sameer Mehta, co-founder of Major League Cricket said.
“Since we arrived in Texas, it’s been incredible to see the support for the Texas Super Kings. We can’t wait to get out on the field and represent the Lone Star State in front of a full house and be part of a special night for cricket in America!” Texas Super Kings skipper Faf du Plessis said.
“We’ve long talked about coming to the United States and I’m glad it’s finally happening. It’s great to hear that the opening game has been sold out, and we can’t wait to bring our exciting brand of cricket to the cricket fans in America,” Los Angeles Knight Riders captain Sunil Narine said.
Six teams will feature in total of 15 games during the league phase of the competition which will be followed by the IPL-style knockouts. The final is scheduled for July 30 in Dallas.
