McDonald’s launched a new flavour of the trademark McFlurry in June, made from soft-serve ice cream and Lotus Biscoff products.
The ice cream-based dessert is described as a “deeply caramelised-tasting biscuit” that’s swirled onto the soft serve McFlurry ice cream for an “extra crunch.”
While fans of the fast-food chain were delighted to hear about the collaboration, some have been left disappointed by the new McDonald’s menu addition, including YouTube sensation, Barry Lewis.
Taking to his channel, the Weston-super-Mare based food fan revealed his alternative recipe for a quicker and tastier version of the Biscoff McFlurry.
He claimed that it’s not only more flavoursome, but also costs half the price of McDonalds’s £1.99 product, coming in at just 54p per serving.
After tasting the McDonald’s original, Lewis, who has over 960,000 subscribers on his cooking channel set about making his own version.
The food-lover put both budget and luxury ingredients to the test before settling on his unique recipe that includes the use of an electric power drill with a spoon as a makeshift McFlurry machine.
While the regular size McFlurry sets customers back £1.99, Barry used Lidl’s own brand ice cream, speculoos spread and biscuits to keep costs low.
Ingredients
- Three or four Biscoff biscuits, plus extra for topping
- A good scoop of vanilla ice cream
- One heaped tablespoon of Biscoff spread
To make the McFlurry dupe, start by placing three or four of the biscuits in a ziploc bag and seal.
Then, use a rolling pin to smash the biscuits into chunky crumbs, setting aside a small amount for the topping.
In a separate bowl, combine one scoop of vanilla ice cream with one heaped tablespoon of Biscoff spread and stir well.
Those with a power drill and McDonald’s McFlurry spoon can blend the ingredients together like Lewis did for a more authentic whipped texture.
Once combined, stir in the biscuit crumbs and serve in a cardboard container or similar. Top with the remaining Biscoff crumbs and drizzle extra spread on top.
