Malan joins elite club by matching England record with century vs Netherlands

Dawid Malan has joined Heather Knight and Jos Buttler as just the third England player to score a century in all three formats

Dawid Malan has joined an elite club after notching his first ODI century for England against the Netherlands at Amstelveen.

Batting at number three due to Joe Root ‘s involvement in the ongoing Test series against New Zealand, Malan made the most of his opportunity.

After coming into bat in the second over of England’s innings when Jason Roy fell for just one, Malan shared a brilliant partnership with Phil Salt and scored an excellent hundred off 90 balls.

In the process, Malan became just the third England batter to score a century in all three formats. England women’s captain Heather Knight was the first to complete the feat after blasting 108 off 66 balls against Thailand in the Women’s T20 World Cup back in 2020.

Jos Buttler then became the first Englishman to reach the milestone after striking 101 off 67 balls against Sri Lanka at last year’s T20 World Cup.

And Malan has now joined the club, having scored exactly one century for England in all three formats.

His first ton came in the 2017-18 Ashes series when he made a magnificent 144 in the third Test at Perth.

Malan then struck a stunning 103 not out against New Zealand in a T20I at Napier in 2019. And the 34-year-old has now completed the set with a century in the first ODI against the Netherlands.

In total, Malan is just the 20th cricketer to reach the milestone. West Indies legend Chris Gayle was the first to complete the feat and the likes of Brendon McCullum, David Warner and Babar Azam have all joined him since.
