Emmy Award winner and celebrated actor Bryan Cranston has revealed that he is now working on a script for a Malcolm in the Middle revival. During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Cranston was asked how likely he thinks a Malcolm in the Middle return is, with the actor stating that, out of ten, he would give the likelihood of such a project a promising score.
“Yes, I would say that on a scale of 1-10, I’d say an 8 that we’ll do a reunion, movie or show or something. And yes, we have been working on concepts of story, plots and things like that.”
Lasting for seven seasons between 2000-2006, Malcolm in the Middle follows Frankie Muniz as the titular middle child, Malcolm, a somewhat normal teenager who tests at genius level, and his dysfunctional family. Made up of hot-headed, overbearing mother, Lois (Jane Kaczmarek), clumsy, immature, loving father, Hal (Bryan Cranston), and Malcolm’s three brothers, Francis (Christopher Masterson), Reese (Justin Berfield), and Dewey (Erik Per Sullivan), Malcolm in the Middle remains a firm sitcom favorite, with many having wondered if the show would return alongside all the other small screen revivals that are currently happening.
Cranston’s role as Hal in Malcolm in the Middle is what the actor was best known for before his stellar performance in the AMC series Breaking Bad, and it would certainly be a crowd-pleaser to see him go back to his comedic roots.
Bryan Cranston Wants to See Malcolm & the Family All These Years Later
This is not the first time that Bryan Cranston has teased a return for Malcolm in the Middle. The actor has stated earlier this year that he would love to see the family all these years later, and is interested in what they’ve been up to. “I’m curious about that family 20 years later. What happened to them? Where are they? What are the kids doing? They’re grown men now,” he said, perhaps teasing what the revival he is now working on will involve.
Cranston recently stated that he will take a break from acting in the next few years, and while many mistakenly took this as him announcing his retirement, the actor has since clarified that this is not the case. The critically acclaimed actor has several projects currently in the pipeline, joining the likes of Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, and Jeff Goldblum in director Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City.
Cranston will also play a role in director Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming spy movie, Argylle, starring alongside Henry Cavill as a world-class spy suffering from amnesia who is tricked into believing he is a best-selling spy novelist. Argylle is scheduled to be released in the United States on February 2, 2024, by Universal Pictures.
