Manchester City are reportedly close to signing Manchester United teen star Harrison Parker from their bitter rivals. The Premier League champions are supposedly set to beat several other clubs to the signature of the highly-rated defender.
In a rare transfer between the two Manchester clubs, Parker is reportedly expected to join City. The Etihad Stadium outfit have apparently beaten four other big teams to the signing of the centre-back.
Parker made his debut for United’s U18s last season, playing in an U18 Premier League defeat by Stoke. He was set to become a scholar at Old Trafford this summer.
The Red Devils are claimed to have offered Parker one of their best scholarship contracts in a bid to fend off interest from rival clubs. However, Parker has supposedly decided to join City.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Parker will now join City’s academy on a scholarship deal. Interest in the former England U15 international is believed to have been high.
Parker previously spent nine years in Arsenal’s academy, announcing his decision to switch to United in September 2021. However, he is now set for another transfer to another of the Premier League’s top clubs, with City winning the race to secure his future.
City have a reputation for signing two or three of the country’s best academy talent every year. They have already signed the highly-rated England youth goalkeeper Spike Britts from AFC Wimbledon.
Express Sport understands that Britts had trialled at several clubs after emerging as yet another promising talent from the Wimbledon academy. He opted to join City at the end of the season, signing a scholarship contract.
Meanwhile, the Treble winners continue to add strength to Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad. Matteo Kovacic has been signed from Chelsea in a £25m deal, replacing the outgoing captain Ilkay Gundogan who has joined Barcelona on a free transfer.
