Premier League title race: Man City stretch lead at top

Manchester City may not be finished trimming their squad during this month’s January transfer window despite Ferran Torres already sealing his move to Barcelona.

A number of Pep Guardiola’s players have been linked with moves away from the Etihad Stadium, with one name now being linked with a switch to Serie A side AC Milan.

Another player who was widely tipped to leave the club last summer was midfielder Bernardo Silva, who has now announced his transfer plan following reports linking him with a move.

And if Silva does depart, it appears he could be replaced by a Real Madrid midfielder who has won just about everything in the game.

AC Milan eye defender

Italian giants AC Milan have “evaluated” the idea of moving for Manchester City defender Nathan Ake during this month’s January transfer window, according to reports.

According to Milan Live [via Sport Witness ], the Rossoneri want to bring in new faces in defence this month after losing Simon Kjaer to a long-term injury and with fellow defenders Alessio Romagnoli and Fikayo Tomori recently returning positive Covid tests.

It has left the side light at the back with reports suggesting the club want to follow up their success with Englishman Tomori and have “focused” their attention to find a new player in the Premier League.

There are said to be several names on Milan’s shortlist, with Ake one of the players being “evaluated”.

Silva clarifies transfer plan

Bernardo Silva wants to seal a move to hometown club Benfica later on in his career.

According to A Bola [via Manchester Evening News ], has been asked about returning to his long-held ambition of returning to boyhood club.

Silva came through the ranks at the Portuguese side before sealing a move to French side Monaco, where he helped the side unexpectedly reach the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2017.

But he has now spoken about a return to Benfica and insisted he will go back “without a doubt”.

He said: “Training and presiding doesn’t make sense. Play? Without a doubt, if they want me there.”

City “waiting” on Real Madrid ace

Manchester City are waiting for Luka Modric “with open arms” it has been reported.

According to Spanish news outlet El Nacional, Pep Guardiola is “waiting” to see if the Croatian midfielder will sign a new contract at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium with his current deal set to expire this summer.

City reportedly want to offer him a deal which would see Modric pocket “a salary considerably higher than what he receives at Real Madrid” and spend one season with the club before moving to New York City FC, who are also in the CIty Group portfolio of clubs.

But the player himself is said to want to retire at Real Madrid – if the club can match City’s offer and give him a two-year deal.
