Man slams flight crew after wife is made to clean mess – but people are divided

A PASSENGER was left fuming after a flight attendant made his pregnant wife pick rubbish up off the floor on a plane.

Toronto Blue Jays’ pitcher Anthony Bass’ wife was flying with United airlines, when he claims the incident took place.

In a furious tweet, he wrote: “The flight attendant @united just made my 22 week pregnant wife traveling with a 5 year old and 2 year old get on her hands and knees to pick up the popcorn mess made by my youngest daughter. Are you kidding me?!?!”

The tweet was accompanied by a picture of his children sitting in their plane seats with popcorn surrounding them on the floor of the aircraft.

United responded to Anthony’s tweet, saying they would look into the situation.

They wrote: “Hi there, Anthony. We certainly understand your concern and we’d like to look into this.

“When you have a moment, please DM your wife’s confirmation number along with any additional details regarding her interaction with this crew member.”

While the airline seemed to be sympathetic, members of the public were divided.

Some were on his side, saying that the flight attendant was out of order for making Anthony’s wife clean up the mess.

One wrote: “I think it’s disgusting that the stewardess made a pregnant woman clean up a mess. If they’re going to supply popcorn on the airplane be ready for messes to clean up. If you don’t like it, don’t serve popcorn.”

Another agreed, saying: “Wow, I’m sorry that happened to her. Unbelievable.”

However, the vast majority of public opinion was with the flight attendant, with people saying that Anthony and his wife sounded entitled.

One person argued: “As someone who has definitely travelled with two small kiddos cross country by myself before…the rule is clean up after your own gremlins.”

Another said: “22 weeks? I would have picked up MY child’s mess at 32 weeks without being told. Sir, your wife will be fine.”

A third added: “Entitlement is just screaming at me.”

When asked who he thought should clean up the mess if not his wife, he responded with, “The cleaning crew they hire!”

However, giving the planes a thorough clean isn’t always possible between journeys because of the fast turnaround between flights.

Verna Montalvo, a cabin cleaner for American Airlines at Dallas-Fort Worth airport, told the Washington Post that she and her team sometimes had as little as four minutes to do the job each time.

She revealed: “Some flight attendants get upset because it’s not clean.

“Of course it’s not clean – because this is how much [time] they give us.”

British Airways even ran a trial to see if they could speed up departure times by stopping cleaning between flights.

Meanwhile, another passenger was slammed online for leaving a horrible sticky mess in a plane’s seat pocket.
