In an appalling incident, a 40-year-old man was left to die in the sun with his hands and legs tied by his 70-year-old father. The man breathed his last after being exposed to intense heat wave conditions.

The incident happened in Sanamasinabila village under Ghatagaon block of the natural resource-rich Keonjhar district on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Sumant Nayak, son of nefarious father Panua Nayak.

As per reports, Sumant had an argument with his wife and mother; he even thrashed them. Later, he went to his father’s shop in the village and had an argument with him too, following which his father Panua got angry and wanted to teach a lesson to his son, who was a repeat offender.

On Sunday, Panua tied his son Sumant’s hands and legs, and left him outside under the sun at around 2 pm in the scorching heat as a punishment for his waywardness.

Talking To India Today, Ghatgaon Police station Sub-Inspector Tapan Jena said, “The investigation is on, the exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained, we are waiting for the medical report before we take any action against the father of the deceased, as he is an elderly person.”

Dr Srikant Dhar, Senior Medicine Specialist at Sum Ultimate Hospital, said, “When the outside temperature crosses 40 degree, human brain has hyperthermia centre , which controls body temperature, our inner body temperature is 37 degree, when the temperature outside body rises above normal level, the hyperthermia centre keeps control of temperature, when there is excess rise or fall in temperature outside the body. It becomes tough for the body to control it.”

“Till the body temperature is within 100 degree Fahrenheit, there is no problem in the metabolism, after the body temperature rises above 104 Fahrenheit, hyperthermia makes it unable to control the body temperature resulting in heatstroke.”

“The person may die due to organ failure, also if the person has a history of any heart problem, it becomes difficult for the person to survive,” added Dr Dhar.
