Manchester United reportedly hold a key advantage in the race to secure the signature of Frankfurt star Randal Kolo Muani. The France international is attracting plenty of interest ahead of the summer transfer window, with the Bundesliga side desperate to retain his services.
Erik ten Hag has made signing a striker a priority at Old Trafford for the end of the season, with Wout Weghorst’s acquisition on loan from Burnley only a short-term quick fix for their lack of depth in the final third.
Tottenham star Harry Kane and Napoli forward Victor Osimhen have both been identified as leading candidates to be the Red Devils’ marquee signing, though Kolo Muani is also admired. The 24-year-old has scored 11 and assisted ten in 24 league appearances so far this season, with his price potentially rising beyond £100million as a result.
Kolo Muani’s impressive form and cutting edge has caught the eye of numerous sides, though United appear to be the favoured destination of the forward, says journalist Christian Falk. He told Caught Offside: “Everyone’s getting the feeling that it’s no longer realistic for Frankfurt to keep Randal Kolo Muani for one year more.
“The player’s already come out and said it’s the first time he can think about a summer move – to a big club in particular. So, you see, Frankfurt is losing a lot of quality and this could be the reason why Oliver Glasner is considering leaving.
“Manchester United is a big thing for Muani. They don’t have the right striker for this position; look at Wout Weghorst – he’s only scored two goals for them. They are preparing an offer for him. He knows that and if you have United in your head, it’s hard to concentrate on Frankfurt.”
Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also amongst those to hold an interest in Kolo Muani, and they may have been given the green light to make their approach earlier this week after the former Nantes star spoke of how he is ready to play at the very top level.
He told L’Equipe: “We talk about it a lot already, but I try to be focused on my club. We continue our performances and we will see this summer. Afterwards, I always dreamed of playing in big clubs. I thought I was going to need some time to adapt, maybe a year. But everything exploded. Either way, I’m ready for any challenge.”
