Man Utd agree Mason Mount transfer as compromise reached with Chelsea

United saw their third bid for Mount worth £50m plus £5m in add-ons rejected last week, with Chelsea demanding a £65m package.

But The Athletic report that the Blues have accepted a compromise and will receive £55m up front and a potential £5m in add-ons based on appearances and success.

Mount has permission to undergo his medical and finalise personal terms as a United player before signing the relevant paperwork. The 24-year-old midfielder looks set to become Ten Hag’s first signing of his second summer transfer window at Old Trafford.

He is the fourth midfielder Ten Hag has recruited since becoming United boss last year, following Christian Eriksen and Casemiro on permanent deals and loanee Marcel Sabitzer.

Mount has made 195 senior appearances for Chelsea since graduating from the club’s academy in 2017. He registered 33 goals and 37 assists under Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter, helping the Blues lift their second Champions League in 2021.

Contract talks broke down earlier this year, and with one year remaining on his current deal, Chelsea were keen to avoid losing him for free in 2024.

Mount was previously linked with Bayern Munich and Liverpool, but he reportedly made his desire to join United clear earlier this summer.

Ten Hag is expected to turn his focus toward a goalkeeper and striker now that Mount is secured.

United are reportedly in talks over Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana as the Dutchman eyes a new No 1 ahead of David de Gea’s exit.

The Red Devils’ striker plans are more mirky, given funds will likely have to be raised to sign a big-money target.

Mount will likely become a United player before Ten Hag’s squad reunites at Carrington to begin a jam-packed pre-season schedule featuring eight games in five countries.
