United have long been interested in Kim who has been one of the best defenders in Europe this season and part of the Napoli side that cruised to the Serie A title.
The 26-year-old was named Serie A Best Defender and featured in the league’s Team of the Season.
Erik ten Hag is keen to sign a left-sided centre-back to replace Harry Maguire in the squad and reports suggest the Red Devils are ready to trigger the South Korea international’s £50million release clause.
However, they are now facing serious competition for his signature, with The Telegraph claiming that PSG are now the ‘frontrunners’ to sign Kim, though no official bids have been made by any interested party.
However, Napoli are keen to hold onto the player some have nicknamed ‘The Monster’ having only signed him from Fenerbahce last summer and whose contract could run til 2027.
It is said that Gli Azzurri have offered Kim a brand new contract which would update or even remove the aforementioned release clause which would surely end United’s chances of landing him.
United are looking to bring in players for several key areas this summer and most of the spending power will likely be focused on improving central midfield and getting at least one new striker.
It had been previously reported that Kim has said goodbye to his Napoli teammates amid all the transfer speculation and that United had even found a house for the player to live in once he arrived in Manchester.
In other news, Ten Hag has reportedly blocked blocked Frankfurt’s attempts to sign centre-back Victor Lindelof.
