Man Utd decide third signing for Erik ten Hag with Andre Onana set for medical

Manchester United will now push for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund after wrapping up an agreement with Inter Milan worth in the region of £47million for goalkeeper Andre Onana. The Cameroonian is expected to travel to Manchester on Monday or Tuesday to undergo medical tests and there is optimism that all being well, he will join his new team-mates on the flight that departs for the USA pre-season tour on Wednesday if all goes to plan.

Talks between the two clubs have rumbled on for weeks but United finally agreed a fee on Sunday evening to make Onana their second summer signings after the £60m acquisition of Mason Mount from Chelsea.

Yet their transfer plans are not expected to stop there as a striker is still of burning priority for Erik ten Hag as the 2023/24 season draws ever closer.

United’s top striker target is Danish sensation Hojlund and there is confidence a deal can be struck with Atalanta for the highly-rated 20-year-old.

Although there are other areas of United’s squad that Ten Hag would like to improve before the September 1 transfer deadline, landing a new No.9 is at top of the agenda once the Onana deal has been rubber-stamped.

Paris Saint-Germain have also enquired about Hojlund but it’s believed United is his preferred destination of choice.

Striking an agreement over a fee with the Italian side remains the issue although the Red Devils are still yet to submit an opening proposal.

But that could change in the coming days and weeks when United will have greater clarity on their transfer budget moving forward.

Sales could ultimately hold the key to their financial reach and Atalanta are expected to drive a hard bargain as they know there is interest from Europe’s top clubs.

Juventus have also been monitoring Hojlund with Dusan Vlahovic currently the subject of discussions with PSG following an underwhelming 18-month spell in Turin.

Bayern Munich have also shown interest in the Serb and could return to the table if they’re unable to prise Harry Kane away from Tottenham.

Personal terms would not be an issue between United and Hojlund as the Denmark international is desperate to make the move to Old Trafford.

While Hojlund is deemed capable of leading the line in the Premier League, he is also regarded as a major talent for the future.

Therefore, in signing him, United would also have the freedom to reconsider a move for Kane in the summer of 2024 when the Tottenham talisman will be available on a free transfer.

United have made several players available for transfer including the likes of Harry Maguire, Fred and Anthony Martial while Eric Bailly and Alex Telles are virtually certainties to depart.

Dean Henderson too, could be sold to raise further cash with Nottingham Forest interested in a £30m deal.

Ten Hag would also reportedly consider offers for Jadon Sancho but there has been little interest in the former Borussia Dortmund winger this summer after two disappointing seasons at Old Trafford.
