Man Utd forward Greenwood may be set to emulate Beckham and Zlatan

Amid his ongoing absence at Manchester United, Mason Greenwood has been linked with a summer switch to AC Milan. It was reported over the weekend that the Serie A giants admired the ‘technical ability’ of the 21-year-old, who hasn’t played for the Red Devils since January last year. Should he move to the San Siro, he’d then emulate the likes of David Beckham and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in playing for both European giants.

Manchester United are continuing to take their time when it comes to Greenwood and his future at Old Trafford.

Charges were dropped against the forward back in February, meaning the 21-year-old is now able to resume his career in football.

But United aren’t guaranteed to bring the youngster back into the fold and, therefore, it’s possible he’ll be sold to raise funds for a summer spending spree.

Should that happen, then Greenwood could feasibly move to Italy with AC Milan – with the Serie A giants eager to bolster their attack as they look to challenge Napoli for the Scudetto next term.

And he’d also emulate the likes of Beckham and Ibrahimovic by playing for both clubs.

Man Utd takeover: Man Utd making plans for five players

Over the years, a total of nine players have been able to pull on the colours of the two giants.

Joe Jordan was a good asset for the Red Devils during his playing days, though would later move to Milan.

He would score 19 goals in 61 appearances for the Italian team before moving to Verona, while later finishing his career with the likes of Southampton and Bristol City.

Ray Wilkins joined United in 1979 and would remain at the club until 1984, before moving to Milan.

Massimo Taibi is known infamously by fans for some errors after moving to Old Trafford as a replacement for Peter Schmeichel.

Before that, however, he’d impressed enough for Milan in order to secure a move to Old Trafford.

Jesper Blomqvist failed to make his mark at the San Siro, having earned a move due to his impressive performances for IFK Goteborg.

But the winger would be a useful squad player as United won the treble in 1999, starting their famous 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Everybody at United loved Jaap Stam and his gladiatorial style of playing while he was in England.

Yet after falling out with Sir Alex Ferguson he’d leave for Lazio, before then later moving to Milan.

Beckham made his name at United, becoming a club legend, and would proceed to play for the likes of Real Madrid, LA Galaxy and Paris Saint-Germain.

But he also had two loan spells in Italy with Milan, with his performances there enough to warrant an England recall under Steve McClaren.

Ibrahimovic had played for Juventus and Inter Milan prior to moving to Barcelona in 2009.

However, after struggling to emerge from Lionel Messi’s shadow at the Nou Camp, he returned to Italy with AC Milan the following year.

Ibrahimovic would dazzle for two years before moving to Paris Saint-Germain, and later United in 2016.

He won the Carabao Cup and Europa League while playing under Jose Mourinho, silencing his critics in the process.

And after two years at LA Galaxy, he returned to Milan in 2019. He’s expected to retire there as he approaches the end of his career at the age of 41.

Matteo Darmian and Diogo Dalot have also spent time at Milan, too.

And whether Greenwood does the same remains to be seen.
