Man Utd have £300m complication due to Glazers for Bellingham move

Manchester United reportedly have a £300million blackhole from previous business under the Glazers that could ultimately cost them in their hopes of signing Jude Bellingham. It’s set to be the saga of the summer with Borussia Dortmund potentially selling off another one of their superstar players.

Jadon Sancho was sold to United two years ago for £73m while Manchester City paid a cut-price £51.2m fee for Erling Haaland last summer. But Bellingham is set to trump the pair of them with Dortmund seeking a fee in the region of £130m.

The 19-year-old is seen as one of Europe’s best young talents and has already made an impact on the biggest stage. He’s been instrumental in helping Borussia Dortmund in their title challenge at the top of the Bundesliga this season, bossing midfield with his side just two points adrift of Bayern Munich.

Liverpool were thought to be among the frontrunners for his signature ahead of the summer transfer window, but they have reportedly pulled out of the running. According to the Telegraph, that’s created a two-horse race between Manchester City and Real Madrid for his signature.

United too can’t be ruled out, it’s claimed, but the report points out the financial challenges they could face. It’s said that United still owe ‘more than £300m in outstanding transfer fees’ with Financial Fair Play breathing down their necks.

To make a move for Bellingham possible, United will need to raise funds through player sales. But an ‘added complication’ is due to United’s takeover situation with the Glazers still going through the process of going over bids.

It’s suggested that United may look to sign cheaper alternatives to Bellingham, while Paris Saint-Germain are also unlikely to challenge for his signature. Meanwhile, City are reportedly not put off by the huge asking price set by Dortmund and are ‘prepared to pay whatever it takes’.

Real are also prepared to present a package worth £132m, although £31m of that will be in add-ons. Those add-ons could reportedly require Bellingham to win the Champions League or be awarded the Ballon d’Or.

It was reported in Germany last week that the teenager is set to make a decision on his future soon and it’s not completely ruled out that he remains in Dortmund for at least one more season.
