The forward has a year remaining on his contract at Porto, who could cash in on him this summer. However, it is believed the 30-year-old has a release clause of £53million narrowing down potential transfer options.
Taremi claims that Newcastle offered him a transfer deal two years ago, but he decided against a Premier League move. He told Iranian sports website Varzesh3: “I rejected their offer because we were in the Champions League and I could play against teams like Liverpool, AC Milan and Atletico Madrid. I preferred to stay at Porto because Newcastle were fighting to remain in the Premier League and I didn’t think they could qualify to the UCL after their bad season.”
