Man Utd hero Ji-Sung Park puts timeline on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sacking ahead of Watford

Manchester United hero Ji-Sung Park believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should be given until the end of the season before the Glazers consider relieving him of his duties. The Norwegian has overseen a turbulent campaign at Old Trafford so far. And plenty of replacements are being linked ahead of today’s match with Watford.

Manchester United gave Solskjaer lavish transfer backing in the summer, bringing in the likes of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo.

But, with the Red Devils losing six of their last 12 matches, it would be no understatement to say the 48-year-old was struggling to get the best from his star-studded squad.

With Solskjaer toiling in the dugout, links to the likes of Brendan Rodgers, Mauricio Pochettino, Erik ten Hag and Zinedine Zidane have all arisen.

But Park, speaking to Goal, has claimed Solskjaer should be given until the end of the season.

“It’s been three years for Solskjaer as a manager and I believe that this will be the defining season for him, in terms of whether he continues at the club,” said the retired South Korea international.

“I think that he deserves credit for what he’s done at United, and deserves to fight [for his job] until the end of the season, but he needs to show he can continue after that.

“He did well to bring the old United spirit and culture back to us.

“Before him, we had Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, who had reputations as world-class coaches, but it didn’t work out.

“So I think that United learned from those experiences and that they were key in the decision to stick with Solskjaer [after the Liverpool and City defeats].

“But the most important point is whether he can compete with Pep (Guardiola), (Jurgen) Klopp, (Thomas) Tuchel, the best coaches in the world.

“He had great experiences from his very young age and he also had many difficult moments in his career that he overcame eventually.

“For sure, he has great leadership skills as well. So, I believe he can be United’s manager in the future.”

Park isn’t the only United hero to recently talk about Solskjaer.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Gary Neville opened up on his former team-mate and defended his refusal to call for the sack.

“There are people saying this is the worst moment of my punditry career,” he said.

“They say I am not being honest. But I am not paid on TV to sack managers and I ain’t doing it.

“I know the impact of Gary Neville saying a Man United manager should be sacked.

“For the pundits who have said it then “Well done” but it’s not my style.

“When I see another pundit calling for any sacking, I cringe. My stomach turns.

“My line is crossed with that. Maybe their line is in a different place.”
