Erik ten Hag has made signing a new centre forward a top priority this summer but there is uncertainty over how much the club can spend, a situation further complicated by the takeover plans at Old Trafford.
Reports suggest United have somewhere between £100million and £150million to spend this summer with the club needing to comply with financial fair play rules.
The club are already committed to signing Mason Mount in a deal worth £55million plus £5m in add-ons while they are also in talks to sign goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan for £43m.
United have already shelved their interest in signing Harry Kane from Tottenham, aware the north London side will demand over £100m for a player in the final year of his contract.
Victor Osimhen is another admired at Old Trafford but Napoli are thought to value the Nigerian at £130m, again placing him out of United’s reach.
United are interested in Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund but reports in Portugal suggest United are also weighing up a bid for Porto star Taremi, who could be available for around £17m this summer.
The Iran international, who is in the final year of his contract, has hit 20 or more league goals in his last two campaigns in Portugal.
The 30-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Saudi Arabia and has turned down moves to Newcastle United and Everton in the last year.
Asked about offers from England, he told Iranian outlet Varzech 3: ‘Yes, that’s true. I received an offer from Newcastle last summer, but at the time I didn’t think they would form such a strong team and fight for the Champions League.
‘At the time , they were fighting not to be relegated. I thought that FC Porto would be better, where I have many big games. I could not miss this opportunity.
‘But even now, for example, Everton’s proposal does not interest me.’
