Manchester United were dire against Newcastle, putting in another drab display in a season where things have gone from bad to worse.
The home side took a deserved lead through the energetic and enterprising Allan Saint-Maximin, with Edinson Cavani then scoring in the dying stages to earn the visitors a point.
It was, however, another questionable United display.
They were unconvincing against both Palace and Norwich, with the players still getting up to speed with Rangnick’s tactics and coaching style.
And Arsenal legend Groves, speaking to talkSPORT, thinks Maguire and Rangnick could have issues going forward on the back of the result.
“It was supposed to be 4-2-2-2, sometimes it was 4-2-4, most of the time in possession it was 2-4-4,” he said.

“I couldn’t see the way Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted the team to play, I couldn’t see the structure. And there was no structure to Manchester United there [against Newcastle].
“It wasn’t a lack of effort. It was a lack of cohesion, lack of structure. They wanted to press but it was like watching Leeds play at their worst.
“If that was a performance under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer then he would’ve got absolutely slaughtered.
“Harry Maguire isn’t going to enjoy playing that way. He’s going to be left man for man and if you’re playing against them I’d leave two up front.
“You’re one pass away from breaking through their midfield as there’s no protection at all. The two full-backs are pushing on.

“They were a shambles tonight.”
Rangnick conceded he wasn’t impressed with United’s performance against Newcastle, insisting they need to improve if they’re to climb up the table.
“I didn’t like it [the performance] at all. We’ve been trying to get better at controlling games – today, we didn’t control the game apart from a few moments,” he said.
“It’s all about energy, physicality and who wins the second balls and the transitional moments and, in all those areas, we were not at our best.
“In the end, we got a point but the performance overall needs to get better.
“Against Palace, we were better, that was a different game and we played at home.
“We then had two away games at Norwich and here at Newcastle and, as I said, it’s about physicality, it’s about energy… you have to be ready and able to win those direct duels and this was not that often the case.
“Even when we were in possession of the ball, we had too many giveaways, including the goal that we conceded and, if after seven minutes you are one-goal down at St James’ Park, then it doesn’t make things easier.”
Gary Neville, meanwhile, accused United players of being ‘whingebags’ as their season experienced yet another setback.
“That’s a really poor performance there,” he blasted.
“They’ve not done one single thing right as a team, and not one single player can go in and say they’ve done their jobs, or even done themselves justice. No positives. Nothing.
“They’re whinging at each other! They’re a bunch of whingebags! A bunch of whingebags!
“Watch them on that pitch, honestly, arms in the air, complaining about everything!
“Honestly, they’re absolutely shocking out there in that first half. They got the last manager the sack!
“Ralf Rangnick is not going to get the sack, he’s only had a few weeks with them, but honestly, they’ll get a lot of managers the sack, that lot, if they carry on like that.”
