Greenwood development

According to The Sun, Greenwood has told friends he doesn’t expect to play for United again amid the club’s investigation into the 21-year-old.

“Mason believes he’s finished at United,” a source is quoted as saying.

“He’s sat at home kicking his heels and very frustrated.

“He wants to get back playing football but realises his situation is very complicated and it’s his own doing.

“He is determined to play football again but doesn’t think he’ll ever pull on a United shirt ever again.”

Ratcliffe takeover twist

The Daily Mail say Ratcliffe is now the frontrunner in the race to buy United.

It’s claimed Ineos have outbid Sheikh Jassim, offering more than the £5billion the Qatari billionaire is willing to pay.

Ratcliffe is looking to acquire the Glazers’ 69 per cent in the club.

And if he’s successful, he may even allow the controversial Americans to keep a stake worth 20 per cent.

Sheikh Jassim isn’t entirely out of the running just yet, but this latest twist suggests he may end up missing out.

Garnacho shirt number hint

Garnacho signed a new contract with United on Friday that will tie him to the club until 2028.

And the Argentine then proceeded to drop a hint over a potential new shirt number at the club.

On Twitter, Garnacho ‘liked’ a tweet from a fan calling for the 18-year-old to be given the club’s famous No 7 shirt.

It is a jersey that has been worn by icons such as Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Eric Cantona and George Best over the years.

However, it’s also been worn by duds such as Angel Di Maria, Memphis Depay and Alexis Sanchez as well.

Garnacho reacts to new deal

On the subject of Garnacho, the United star has thanked his family and friends after committing his future to the Red Devils.

“Thank you, [I’m] very proud,” he said when congratulated over his new deal.

“It’s a great day for me and my family. And I have worked a lot for this moment.

“I want to say thank you to the manager first because he gave me the opportunity. And of course, my family, all Academy coaches, and everyone [who has] helped me so much.

“I wouldn’t be here signing this new contract without their support.”

Neville gives Fred ‘insight’

Former United star Gary Neville has claimed to have ‘insight’ into why Fred is being overlooked for a starting spot at present.

“I think United have probably got more chance than Real Madrid. I think United in a one-off game at Wembley. The centre-backs will be back, I’m hoping they’ll be back by then and we’ve got players fit,” he told The Overlap.

“I just think if we set up in such a way… I’m hoping that we go into the game with Bruno Fernandes on the right and that we stiffen up the midfield with Scott McTominay [holding] and Casemiro and Christian Eriksen or Marcel Sabitzer. And we go a bit more sort of thoughtful in the game.

“Doing what Arsenal did with the three in midfield that were attacking [was the wrong move]. We need to be a bit more [defensive].

“Erik ten Hag doesn’t like doing this, he likes to dominate the ball, he likes to control the ball.

“He’s left Fred out for the last few months because he wants Eriksen. I’ve got a little bit of an insight into why Fred’s not playing, Sabitzer is playing because he can hold [the ball].”
