Manchester United have made an approach for Lyon right-back Malo Gusto as they seek to make late additions to Erik ten Hag’s squad.

While there are just over two weeks of the summer transfer window remaining, United hope to make as many as five new signings.

The Old Trafford club are thought to be close to agreeing a deal to sign Real Madrid star Casemiro in a sensational £60million deal and hope to sign a second midfielder, a versatile forward, a back-up goalkeeper and a right-back.

United have made a bid to sign Thomas Meunier from Borussia Dortmund with Barcelona’s Sergio Dest another option under consideration.

But ten Hag’s side have also shown interest in 19-year-old Gusto, according to L’Equipe.

The report states that both United and Barcelona are keen to sign the teenager this month. Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain have enquired into his availability this summer but Lyon are desperate to hold onto the France youth international and are intent on extending his contract.

United and Barcelona however hope to test that resolve in the coming weeks with the report adding Lyon could listen to the right offer.

Gusto began the 2021-22 season as Leo Dubois’ understudy at right-back, finishing the season as first-choice and also playing the full 90 minutes in Lyon’s season opener against Ajaccio last week.

Dortmund meanwhile insist they have no intention of selling Meunier this month with director Sebastien Kehl telling Ruhr Nachrichten: ‘We currently see no reason to sell Meunier. That’s not in our plans.’

United’s immediate priority is on a deal to bring Casemiro to Old Trafford. The Brazil international has emerged as a shock target in recent days and despite scepticism over United’s ability to lure him to Old Trafford, an agreement is now thought to be close.

The Telegraph claim the fee for the 30-yeear-old is expected to be close to £60million. While Casemiro has been an integral part of Real’s recent success alongside Toni Kroos and Luka Modric in midfield, he has told teammates that he is interested in a new challenge in Manchester.

United have made Casemiro a lucrative offer with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez prepared to let him leave the Bernabeu should he agree personal terms.

His place in Carlo Ancelotti’s first-team is also under threat following the arrival of Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco this summer.

The Frenchman stared alongside Eduardo Camavinga and Toni Kroos in Real’s season opener against Almeria on Sunday, with Casemiro settling for a spot on the bench.
