Manchester United will lead the race to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain this summer should Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani complete his takeover at Old Trafford.

The move that would send shockwaves through world football has been under discussion since February with El Pais reporting PSG are prepared to sell the French superstar to the Premier League side.

The report claims figures close to PSG’s Qatar owners have already proposed the move to Mbappe.

While the 24-year-oldhas not committed to any deal, he is is ‘interested’ in the move to Old Trafford.

Mbappe has informed PSG that he does not wish to extend his contract at Parc de Princes beyond 2024, a decision that is said to have infuriated the club who will sell him this summer rather than let him walk away on a free transfer next year.

That development coincided with reports from Qatari newspaper Al-Watan, owned by the family of Sheik Jassim, claiming their bid buy United from the Glazer family will be announced soon. However, sources involved in the process have played down those reports.

El Pais claim the ‘win-win’ situation has been proposed to PSG whereby Mbappe leaves this summer for a fee of at least €200million (£171million) while United land one of the biggest names in world football.
